The project depicts the everyday life of Yu Tian Community, an urban village in Shenzhen. The coexistence of orthogonal and 45-degree street networks in Yu Tian reminded DAS of Diamond House by John Hejduk, whose inspiration can in turn be traced to the De Stijl paintings of Piet Mondrian. If Hejduk transformed Mondrian’s two-dimensional pictorial language into architectural space, DAS extends this lineage by further translating it into an urban settlement. Through variations in projection angles and color schemes, the drawings reveal different facets of the village, capturing the dynamism of urban life across day and night.
